I have seen alot of guys on the line chop about 4 inches out of the height of their welding machine. Has anyone here done that and would be willing to explain how it is done. i have always wanted to ask the guys that i worked with but i didn't want to seem like a dumbass. Thanks for the help and any info would be great.

its a lot of work, two ways to do it, i would go with kayes way at billswelderrepair. run electric fan, relocate battery. lower fuel tank

Parent - - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 11-14-2008 01:59

That makes sense about the rad capacity. The motor hasn't changed in size but it's coolant capacity has. A lot to contend with just for looks.  Are you up an running shad?

Right on!!  Don't imagine you'll be climbing under or over things yet. Maybe Cactus will give you some pipe to roll weld for a couple of weeks to get you back in the mix.

i'm hard headed and will push myself to the limit and then some more it's all i know to do but at the same time will watch myself cause my left leg has no feeling in it and i cant feel when i'm tangled in lead or nothing like that

I've worked across the pipe from several people with chopped and channeled 200's. I ve never seen one overheat and that includes Topoc and other despicable desert locations that run well over 120 degrees F.
I've seen them run fine with Harvey-Didleson batteries, but it's better IMO to remote locate a large battery for those 20 below mornings in Rock Springs. Welding lead battery cables and one of those boat type plastic battery boxes are the deal.
A chopped machine, inset into the bed lets the driver see thru his in cab rear view mirror. Plus a lot of guys like the way they look. Plus they will clear your 5th wheel rv if chopped and inset. Many a trailer corner has meet up close and personal with a Lincoln welding machine, including mine ; ) thank goodness for those fiberglass repair kits.
Anyone that says a chopped 200 will overheat hasn't seen it done properly.
The most radical chop job I've ever seen was an old SA-250 chopped by a maniac into a Bobcat size case. It worked for decades that way in heat and cold.

Me too! And I three!! I've been waitin' on pics for awhile.I saw one one time that the guy deleted the battery all together and wired to his truck system for starter juice.

Here is one I built
Parent - - By lincolnbobekin (**) Date 02-12-2009 01:48
I have more pictures at my website www.lincolnbobekin.com   -has a battery in the battery box (750 cranking amps) -full size radiator and mechanical full size fan and altered fan shroud -this one is exactly 3.5 inches shorter.
Parent - - By fordsux8269 (**) Date 02-12-2009 03:10
3.5 inches whats the point in even doing it? Im painting mine tommorrow its chopped 7 inches and its a bad *****. It costs more to do it this way ie... new radiator, fuel tank and a few other things but well worth it.
Parent - - By RioCampo (***) Date 02-12-2009 03:12
Being worth it is only in the eyes of the beholder.
Parent - - By fordsux8269 (**) Date 02-12-2009 03:14
would you not like having a slick ass machine?
Parent - By pypLynr (***) Date 02-13-2009 01:20
fordsux ,
   PICS , my man ... PICS !!!
Parent - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 02-13-2009 14:28
wouldnt we all but as long as it runs and makes the money who cares what it looks like mine have some rust and need paint jobs 1 even needs an ideler up grade but it still makes me just as much money as the guy next to me with the 15,000.00 vantage machine
Parent - By lincolnbobekin (**) Date 02-12-2009 05:26
