I am curently practicing on 1" xx pipe. I have pased 6G test with 5p root as well as LH with a chiller ring but I just can't seem to get this. In the shop using a foot control I do fine and can put a root with no suck back and good penetration, but when I try constant amperage it doesn't go so well. If I set the machine to run a good bead I get suck back. If I set it up hot enough for good penatration I leave dangles in the pipe. Most of my trouble is in the 3 to 9 posistion.I have heard that most places require you to test with a constant setup so what I can do with a pedal does me no good. I am 100% self tought in every process , and this is driving me nuts. I am tired of cutting cupons to practice on. If any body knows of any videos or books I could get to help or has any pointers I would appreciate it. This is the closest thing to a welding school in my area.

All I can tell ya is take a gap bigger than your filler wire. Feed your wire from the inside. Doing this, coming off the bottom to the side, you shouldn't have any suck back. Instead, you should have a bead with some meat. Then when you come off 10 and 2 o'clock poistion, just lay the wire in the bevel and run over the wire. The bead will just fall in there.

Thanks. I found a video on youtube that was helpful. It agreed with your answer. I am going to order the tig series tomorrow.
