Try running it straight on the bead. Keep the heat and travel speed down. You can get at 240/60 with a 3/32 gap running a 5/32 and skate a really thin bead in. Most pipeline welding procedures will not let you run the rod straight, but if you are welding flow line or oilfield structural, where welding procedures are not required, the try it straight.
Fillers and caps are a little tricky and you need to see where your machine runs with different size of electrodes.
