I had some of those I got from a plant one time... they ran like most other xx10 5/32 rods... maybe they're real old??

Isn't there also a 7010- P1?  A lot softer arc than the regular HYP 7010's.  Shad , you'll just have to trade in that machine of yours for a Vantage. You'll see the difference.

ok can you loan me 15,000 to buy a new machine? I agree they are nice machines i ran 1 rod with cactus's 500 and gave it back i was spolied after 1 rod very nice smooth arc but man if the pc board goes out it's alot of money to replace

Try leaving a bigger gap between the rod and the metal.I had the same problem with some 3/16 8010 the other day. I had to keep the rod a little farther away and it worked good.

i talked to a pipeliner buddy yestarday he said it is an H2S rod and to burn it really hot so maybe today i can get over there and play with it some more as for leaving a bigger gap between the rod and the pipe i like it close it's easier to carry the metal that way 8010 is easier to weld with than 5p+ i think

Try running it straight on the bead. Keep the heat and travel speed down. You can get at 240/60 with a 3/32 gap running a 5/32 and skate a really thin bead in. Most pipeline welding procedures will not let you run the rod straight, but if you are welding flow line or oilfield structural, where welding procedures are not required, the try it straight.
Fillers and caps are a little tricky and you need to see where your machine runs with different size of electrodes.
BABRT's
