Is the TPPO saying that it's tempered and pickled in oil?  I know the PO is pickled in oil, but I didn't know you could get tempered A572.  Trying to figure out what I'm dealing with here.  The stuff keeps cracking on the back side of the material opposite of the welded side.  Kind of like it's gets hot and undergoes a rapid cooling and then cracks.

Kix,
To my knowledge tempered is usually just written as "T" as in "Q & T"
Taking a wild guess here, but could TPPO mean: Type Per Purchase Order?

A572 has 4 or 5 different types, depending on the Columbium or Vanadium content.

It is a fine grain steel.

It very well might.  I'm going to have to go to purchasing and get all the goodies on exactly what we are getting.

Found out what it is.  It stands for, tempered pass and pickled in oil.  I wonder if the tempered pass is what is cracking the 10 gauge steel on the opposite side of the steel from the weld?  I have never seen this occurence on such thin guaged steel.

Kix, not to nit pick too much, but that should be "pickled and oiled" They pickle it in acid to remove scale, rinse, then oil to prevent rust.

Yes, it undergoes a tempered pass for straightening and then gets pickled and oiled. ;-)
