that guy is smoking cr*ck wanting 75 dollars for that lense, you can buy them for 23 dollars I've seen online. Local welding store is 35 dollars for shade 10 or 12.

I just tried the welding lense today from Philips safety with a gold mirror for 20 dollars and you guys on here are right it is almost or maybe clearer then a Ao weld cool lense. I told a guy at work about it and he ordered it, it was a shade 12 which is a little to bright for me on aluminum but man that thing was insanely clear. Had a very light blue color to it. I ordered a 14 and a 11 from them so hopefully will get it Thursday.

http://www.phillips-safety.com/store/index.php?cPath=41_66 scroll down to the bottom of the page. These lenses are made out of glass no plastic garbage. There made in Germany and if you know of Metabo grinders well yes there made in Germany as well. The Germans make some really good sh*t as my dad would say because he has alot of there tools. This lense was super clear but I am also welding aluminum mig pulse so it is insanely bright and lights up everything. I have a AO weld cool lense and it is tuff to say which is clearer because this asthermal lense seems to be maybe clearer then a AO lense but I am useing it on aluminum which makes it so much more brighter. The real test will be when I use it on carbon steel because that is all i have used my AO lense on, It'll be a couple of weeks before I get my welder back together and will let you know then what I think of this asthermal lense on carbon but I was really blown away about how clear it was.

Schott is the company which makes the glass for Phillips Safety, and it doesn't get any better than those folks currently! ;)

Here's a question that some folks might take for granted... Is glass a solid or a liquid???

Respectfully,
Henry

yeah i'm pretty dam impressed with the two lenses I have.

I thought Glass was made from like sand
Parent - By ssbn727 (*****) Date 12-22-2009 01:27
It is! it's also made from guess what? more glass... Technically speaking, glass is considered a liquid even though it feels solid to me also... Hey I don't make this stuff up, and it was news to me a few months ago also! ;)

Respectfully,
Henry

Liquid, due to it's non crystaline nature.

Give that man a cigar!!! You're absolutely correct Dave! ;)

I'd have to agree with Justin O on this one. I paid $2 over cost which it seems was $18 cause a guy ordered a #10 and never showed up so the guy at the lws just wanted to move it. It was clearer than you average green and was actually nice. Then I tried a Lincoln super vis and it was excellent and cost around $2-3 so with the money you spend on an AO you could buy a handful of the Lincolns. Put the super vis in my pancake and put the AO back in the package. It's been in my glovebox on my rig now for about three months untouched!

......and why does the ebay guy want $75 for a poly lense?? $33 is retail as far as I know with dealer cost around $18, at least that's what Airgas locally paid for it. Not bad, almost a 50% mark up. Did not check his login name on ebay but was it Mr. Inthesauce by chance?? $75???? WoW!!!!

Cactus, you are right they did. Could weld all day and your eyes didn't feel hot or strained don't know how to explain but for lack of better words they left your eyes feeling cool. What they advertised the lens came through. Dropped my last one on a tile floor 10 years ago, changing pancakes (should have done it on the right a way, where tile would not have played a part) But if anyone knows where I can find an original A O cool lens shade 10 (the silver mirror lens a little black on the ends and mirror in the middle and A O SHD 10 on the inside) let me know. This is what I have heard not backed by facts but from a reliable source. The original lenses had cobalt in them, someone thought that cobalt that close to your eyes may be bad. But my dentist says copenhagen is bad too. Both are probably right. But if anyone knows of a paper wrapped original let me know. Have copenhagen no A O wish I had both.

Highway Robbery I'd seriously look into a shade 10 philips safety. I think you'll be amazed how clear these lenses are. The guy at work had a 12 and man it was so freaking clear. I bought a 11 and a 14. Haven't tried the 11 yet bit as soon as I put my machine back together i'll give it a try

Chris,Thank you for the info. I had to scroll back to see if they are made from glass, and they are and glad to see made in Germany. I try to by only AMERICAN made products (still think support your home you will have a home) German tools and equipment are very precise and stand the test of time. I will check them out at least it is not a plastic lens made in china.

I'm the same way I try buying american but hell most stuff isn't even made here. I'll support Germany at least it isn't China
