I have to test a machine operator on a automatic SAW machine that welds in the 2F position, only T-joints, with the vertical member thickness ranging from 1/4" to 1", but the horizontal member goes from .150 to .375 max.  This means that I can't achieve the required size per D1.1 figure 4.37 test, (1/2" min. for the test plates).  How do I test the operator?
The operator has passed the test for D1.3, table 4.4, 4.2D (fillet welded T-joint, sheet to supporting member) for a 1/2" vertical member and a 11ga (0.120") horizontal member. But d1.3 is only up to 3/16" thick.

That's alot of heat in thin stuff, doesn't it warp?

Chris, I imagine that they are using some really fast travel speeds.
