Is welding really more important in engineering sector ?

Welcome to the forum Paul

I'm not exactly sure what your asking  ??

But I will say that "Welding Engineers"  in the U.S. are rare.  Only a small handful of colleges have specific weld engineering undergrad and post grad degrees...  The demand for those graduates is VERY high.

If that doesn't answer your question... Try again ok?

Again welcome.

Of all engineered products you can think of, what approximate percentage contain metal?

Welcome to the forum.

Tim,
Welding is applied not only to metals; it's used also for plastics.
One example among thousands: the natural gas distribution net of Sao Paulo consists of HDPE (high density poliethylene) piping, butt welded by the "hot plate" method.

Welcome Paul,

As long as there is a need to join 2 pieces of material together, there will be a need for welding and Weld Engineering.
