Looking good Cactus... Fattening them up are you? Should be mighty good. A lady friend of mine just got a Desert Big Horn. Unfortunately her new car needed $7000 in repairs.

Try this hand held infrared scope.  Nothing can hide from this thing.  Last time camping the wife couldn't believe all the critters that were walking around the camper.  Pricey but worth it.

Is that on private property Cactus?  Yours or friend?  Or National Forest land?

Some nice sized deer for being just three (six if you're in an area that counts both sides) points.

Are those pigs the same as our Javelina?  They look very close.

Have a Great Day,  Brent

Brent,
That is on MY Private Property. My Feeder is 135 yds off of my back porch. I have MANY Deer that come every day and night. As well as the Pigs. Those are Ferrell Hogs. Some of them get to be 500-600 lbs.( TheBig one in the Picture will go 350-400lbs). A few will get bigger They are taking over the Southern States. The Game Wardens here even have Radio Commercials asking the Public to KILL them with any means necessary. They cannot stop them from Breeding. Texas has just passed a Law making it Legal to shoot them from Helicopters. Hell we can buy Full Blown Night Vision (MilitaryGrade) and Suppressors and our local gun stores just for Pig Hunting. Gotta Love Texas !!!!

Probably better tasting than our Javelina then.  Hogs raised domestically can have two litters per year with no problems and if taken care of properly will raise 8-14 per litter.  I've seen litters as large as low 20's but several died the first couple of days.  When if FFA my sows would consistently raise 10-12 per litter.  Just as rabbits or house/barn cats can multiply quickly, so can pigs.

Thanks for the info and pics.

Have a Great Day,  Brent

Hello Duane, I did a little bit of work out of Abilene a few years back and two of my sons did a lot of work there. I found that there is a considerable difference in how Texas and Washington manage their game and wildlife. The wind tower work that we were doing was all on private property and as I was told, the animals (wildlife, domestic, etc. ) on that property were owned by the landowners. If you wanted to hunt you contracted to do so and paid for the priviledge. Ferral hogs on the other hand, were as you said, fair game for anyone and looked upon favorably by both the state and the landowners for disposal by any means. Got to know a number of the locals and spoke with them about hunting and such. They were suprised to hear of how a license and tag from the state (in Washington) allowed for the taking of a lot of different sorts of game from both state and private property based on seasons, unit locations, public access, and private access with permission. I have only hunted in Washington and Oregon, so I am not saavy to the practices of many of the other states, there does seem to be quite a large range of differences though. Beautiful animals, what type of deer? I am unable to determine that from the pictures as to scale and markings. Best regards, Allan

I will be changing the Feeder out this week end or first of the Week. I will put some 1ft marks on the Legs up to 5ft. That way you will be able to see the Size of these things. The Land rule here is VERY different from your area. My Land is POSTED. Meaning anyone caught on it for any reason without my permission is fair game just like the Pigs

Are you allowed to capture and domesticate? I'd think you could have practically an endless supply of venison and pork doing that. Gps tracker implant them all, watch their habits within a fenced off wildlife area, then chop em up Butcher Pete style and nom nom.
Parent - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 07-11-2012 22:36
GPS Tracking in Texas ? You can do it. Got a Helicopter ?
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 07-11-2012 23:07 Edited 07-11-2012 23:15
Here are some pics of the way it is done here. The first picture is from my Feeder to my House. The second is from my Porch to my Feeder. The third is one of my Ponds. And the last one is were I sit to observe the Wildlife
BTW. I went out and placed 1ft marks on my Feeder poles so you can all tell the size of the Hogs and Deer on the next pictures.

I don't know there Cactus, that deer stand doesn't look all that comfortable...

I think I'd put some gongs up on the far side of the feeder. That way you'd have the chance of hearing a satisfying squeal and a DING on the pass throughs.

Tamales for EVERYONE!
Feral hogs make the tastiest tamales and BBQ'd roasts.
Not good for bacon, too lean and skanky.
Parent - - By makeithot (***) Date 07-13-2012 02:08
looks BBQ ready
Parent - - By JLWelding (***) Date 07-14-2012 03:40

Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 07-14-2012 03:51
Diseases Mama won't like ? Just exactly what are you doing to those Hogs ?
Parent - By JLWelding (***) Date 07-16-2012 04:15 Edited 07-16-2012 04:19
LOL If you have cuts on your hands it can let germs into your blood. I am going to ask my Doc next time I see him and see what all thats about. He's a big time hunter these days, he's never in his office anymore. Hell he only works three days a week when he's there.
But I would think where gloves and cook meat well and no worries.
