Need help!

hello guys...our contractor have qualified wps for gtaw/smaw process, P1 to P1,no impact test, qualified thickness 5 to 20 mm. gtaw filer max deposit 8mm, smaw = 12mm max.

welder have been qualified for 2" dia. x 5.5mm in this wps. can this welder do production joint using the wps but only GTAW process to complete the joint, without exceeding max. deposit qualified for gtaw?

Welder is qualified to 11 mm but can only weld GTAW to 8 mm if that is the only WPS submitted,

Hi Shane

Welder is qualified to 11mm, similarly 2T is also applicable for WPS.

Joey,
WPS is only qualified for 2 x "t" (deposited weld metal) 2 x 4 mm = 8mm maximum "t".
Doesn't matter if the welder is qualified to 20 mm with GTAW - if the WPS is only good to 8 mm then that is all he can weld - 8 mm max,
Regards,
Shane

Shane

I thought the OP says 8mm (GTAW) + 12mm (SMAW) = 20mm (GTAW & SMAW).
I overlook the 4mm. You are correct, not common to have an 8mm made of TIG welding for root & hot pass.
