A student brought me a stainless SMAW electrode (E308L-16) which is typical... But about an inch down the flux coating there are more numbers (10048)
I don't know what the extra numbers represent... I did a quick google search on "SMAW stainless electrode designation" as well as browsing the Lincoln and Hobart sites.~~~No joy
Some manufacturers not only print lot numbers but codes that express dates, shift, and extrusion technician so they can trace right back to when where and who.
