Usually yes ... IF ... it is allowed in the contract documents.
The WPS for the joint being welded will specify which 'stick' and which 'wire' etc.
Be very careful as a non compatible combination WILL cause weld failures.

Yes but ---- ! If you want to get paid doing it I would require a WPQR and WPS's. I have reviewed a few of such. Been an engineer and into welding for plus 20 years / five patents. Hope this is helpful.

These combinations are common, but you must have supporting WPS & PQR
SMAW - root pass + FCAW - capping
GTAW - root pass + SMAW - capping
GMAW - root pass + SAW - capping
Does this only apply to pre-qualified procedures ?
