Since you didn't get back to us to answer Lawrence's question regarding the applicable welding standard, I will respond with a generic reply.
The easiest way to establish a reasonable range of welding parameters is to qualify a procedure for fillet welds. While it will provide no information relating to the mechanical properties, it will provide useful information about the appropriate voltage, amperage, and travel speeds. Of course, this assumes you have access to a welding maching, raw material, electrodes, and last but not least, someone that can weld.
