I am currently involved in a D1.5 job and my PQR expires in Feb.  I believe I can do the modified test plate B, using joint detail
B-U2a-GF.  Material will be A709GR50.   Any insight?     Thanks!

Why did your PQR expire?

Pqr is only valid for 60 months, per D1.5

I think you are right. I don't have my copy of D1.5 handy, but I remember something along those lines when you are involved with a project that lasts longer than your pqr.

If the current job is started before PQR expires, you are okay to continue. But you cannot start a new job without retesting.  C-5.3 page 371 D1.5  2010.    My question now is,   do I have to do a full test for the next job, or can I do a modified test now(before this pqr expires) to get another five years?

Good question, does the Commentary section give you any help with that question?

C-5.7.2 and C5.7.3 on page 375 D1.5  2010   but I don't quite understand it.

I know this post is old, but look at C-5.3 on page 381 of D1.5 2015:

"Previous editions of the code had time limits on PQRs. These were removed because bridge welding experience demonstrated that repeated tests of the same welding parameters did not offer additional useful information about the properties of the welds accomplished with the procedure nor an effective reflection of the fabricator's welding practices"

So as of the 2015 revision of D1.5, you no longer have time limits on PQR's.

Except for PQRs required to meet Clause 12 requirements. They went from being valid for 3 years to being valid for 5 years.

Also, don't forget to check the DOT's requirements. Many of them have codified the 5 year retesting requirement for PQRs in their respective Standards and Specifications manuals.

As to the original question of this thread: No, you can not use the 5.7.3/Fig 5.2 'WPS Verification Test B' to requalify your expired PQR. It is a verification test for when you use someone else's PQR to write your own WPSs. It is to make sure you can produce the required results when using that PQR for a WPS.
