I'm looking at an engineering drawing showing some fillet welds on some Monel bars.  The welds are primarily being used to "fair" the two bars together and are rounded so that a rope can pass around the bars on a smooth, rounded surface.  They aren't structural welds per se, but they will see a slight load from the rope.

Anybody have any warnings or comments on the ease or difficulty in welding Monel.

ps: This is for a trolley that pulls submarines into an msf facility so everything has to be non-magnetic.

Thanks for any advice offered.

Regards,

Bob

The manufacturer can provide you with more specifics but the main concern is to weld K-500 in the annealed condition. It is readily weldeable with NiCu-7 filler but it is designed to harden through the precipitaiton of the gamma prime phase (Al/Ti-y'). If you weld this alloy in the aged condition it is subject to Post Weld Strain Age Cracking (PWSAC). So the basic idea is to anneal it. Weld it. Anneal it again. And then age it to achieve its intended properties.

Thanks for the input.  Luckily, this part is fairly small and there should be no problems with the annealing.
