I was givin a hand full the other day to try out in an overhead position welding a 4" nipple on a 24" pipe heavy wall.  Never used it before and I am thinking it runs a lot colder then 5P+ 6010. I am frustrated I am not able to get it to stack like 6010. Does any one have any hints or tips for my frustrations?
I run a ClassicIII 300D. Any hints would be helpful! Thanks

i have been practiceing with 8010 for a while and the only thing i can say is that the hot you can run it the better it beeds.  but you have to be fast at it....

hello ...i run a sa-200 1974ish gas....i use the 8010s only cause my pipeliner buddy gave me 50# of it...i had the same prob.  i called him several times asking ?s .he told me, use it in the 240-160 range and 50 - 55 fine current(every machine is diff.) and 2 haul ass when welding ...with a gap of a long 1/8th......so far it worked 4 me...weld starting 2 look better anyway..

is that what they call hippie rod

hippy is 7010(yellowish-brown), used for mainly smaller diameter pipe, (here in Canada anyways), typically the 8010 comes out when over 12" dia. in my experience anyways.

Thanks everyone for your tips and stuff I am finding it a lot easier to run but I am still hit and miss with my stacking abilities I will beat it though

"Hippie" is E7010-G HYP. Works really great on .375 X52 pipe. On X60 can cause UC from 2-4 o'clock. But UC can run from top to bottom if ran too hot or on thin pipe (.188, .152). Since 70+ came out few contractor use it because of some of the welding problems with HYP. But if a contractor gets a deal on HYP and they are welding some X60 or X65 they may pick up a few 100 pounds and let X-Ray sort it out.
Or they dont know about the issues with HYP on X60 or espically X65 pipe. If you are welding on X65, keep the heat and travel speed down.

WE ran HYP up in Vernal Utah a couple summers ago it was a fire breathin dragon man. But the rod we are using is not 70+ it is different it is strictly pipeliner rod 8010-P1+ pipeliner is what is its official numbering on the side of the rod the same color gray as 6010 5P+ my local weld shop had a tuff finding it untill I showed them in the cataloge the difference so I am not sure?
