My hunting weapon is a Thompson Center Contender 10" bbl. in 30-30 with 2.5X scope zeroed in at 250 meters, and has always been a one shot, one drop.
It fed my family for many years, and my daughter used it for her deer hunts.
Never was a big fan of the AR platform. Had a couple of AR 15s and a Bushmaster M4, but wheeled and dealed them away.
Sometimes the US military gets too strange on their design criteria. Such as forward assist (AR) and grip safety (1911). My opinion only.
