I'm with you on the 220 Swift. It too holds a certain mystique and appeal with me.
There are so many new designer calibers these days, it's confusing for us (me) old timers.
Reloads are the only way to go. Not just for economics, but it is rare to find a factory load that cannot be improved upon depending on individual barrel harmonics. And faster is not always more accurate.
30 years ago, I started using Sierra Spire points in my T/C 3030 and found some remarkable accuracy at 300 yds. I even experimented with some slower powders for the Winchester 94. This of course is not recommended practice due to having spire points in a tubular magazine and had to always fend off the habit of automatically wanting to load the mag with more than one.
I too am old school and embrace my revolvers, lever and bolt actions. I do draw the line at Black Powder though.
But! After a serious session in pursuit of the One Hole Target. I do enjoy stabbing in a hi-capacity clip and playing "dance the can".

Guys, yall can talk about all of the fancy overpriced guns you want. Me, I'll stick with my old Winchester '94 30-30. This particular rifle I traded for. Ended up giving way more in trade than what the gun is worth, but I got if from a friend who's dad owned the rifle before he died. The dad was an old cowboy who grew up in this area before the "Old West" was completely dead. I would see him down at the bar in the little town south of here. He would set and tell stories all day and into the evening about cowboys, rank horses and mountain lion hunts. He carried this old rifle with him everywhere  and it has the scars to prove it. Now I keep it cleaned and oiled but it goes with me everywhere. Granted it's no 300 mag or 220 Swift, but for a ranch rifle that goes on my saddle or in the truck I couldnt ask for better. And this rifle has some history and sentimental value. When they finally had to put ol' Bob in the nursing home his nurses told him he couldnt have any whiskey because it was "bad" for him. Heck he was over 80 yrs old. What could it hurt. We would sneak him in a small bottle of Lord Calvert when we would go see him. That old man could sure tell some stories.

I really like shooting the Hornady Lever Evolution ammo thru this old 94. At 300 yards I dropped a fox with a neck shot a while back using open sights. Between the "Hostile Native" and I, we've got quite an assortment of rifles and handguns and some are even kinda fancy and spendy, but when I need to shoot something the old cowboy '94 is my go to rifle.

I have Live Hogs at the end of the range !!
