Witt Celebrates 70 Years as a Gas Technology Products Supplier Witt, Witten, Germany, a manufacturer of gas technology products, recently celebrated its 70th anniversary. In 1945, Witt marketed its dry flashback arrestor, used to protect single cylinders, outlet points, or pipelines, for use with almost all technical gases. In 1969, the company began to manufacture gas mixers for the production of shielding gases for welding and furnace atmospheres. Now, it also offers products for portable mixing, metering and gas analyzing units, electronic control and readout systems, and complex processing equipment. Witt supplies to more than 60 countries. It employs 200 people at its headquarters, and exports more than 70% of its production. Sulzer Acquires InterWeld and Strengthens Its Service Activities Sulzer, Winterthur, Switzerland, a provider of pumping products and rotating equipment maintenance and services, has recently acquired the business of Inter- Weld, Inc., Ltd., Belfast, Northern Ireland, a specialized weld cladding company. With the acquisition, Sulzer’s Chemtech division, which provides products for separation, reaction, and mixing technology, will strengthen the competitiveness of its tower field service activities by adding a range of automated weld cladding services to the oil and gas, as well as the power, market. InterWeld’s global client base and skilled team, which provides cladding services for a range of challenging environments such as the subsea oil and gas, petrochemical, waste to energy, and biomass, along with pulp and paper mills, will increase Chemtech’s offering of welding services, designed to enhance the lifespan of critical components within the power industry. The integration will start after closing, and all employees will be retained, ensuring ongoing customer dedication in the weld cladding marketplace. Bluhull Donates Welding Equipment for Students Bluhull Group, Balzan, Malta, which services the oil and gas industry, has donated about $23,000 worth of welding equipment to the Institute of Building and Construction Engineering at Malta College of Arts, Science, and Technology (MCAST). The college, established in 2001, has a current enrollment of about 6400 students. Programs offered at the institute include construction engineering, building engineering, welding and fabrication, and plumbing and liquid petroleum gas systems. The significant donation will help equip welding training workshops and reinforce students’ practical training and preparation for industry. Online Competition Recognized Excellence in Sheet Metal Working EuroBLECH 2014, the 23rd International Sheet Metal Working Exhibition recently held in Hanover, Germany, presented for the first time Champions in Sheet Metal Working, an online competition to recognize high standards, best practice, innovation, and excellence in sheet metal working. The competition was open to organizations of all sizes in any country in the sheet metal working industry. Winners were selected through an online voting system by industry professionals, and were presented with their awards during the official awards ceremony at EuroBLECH 2014. Priyank Lasercut Private, Ltd., India, won the production in a record time category for its CNC waterjet cutting of sheet metal. Jnius Design, Finland, won the production of an unusual product made of sheet metal for its sheet metal football in 1:1 scale. F.LLI Vimercati S.N.C., Italy, won the solution for a complex problem category for its press brake for the production of electric cabinets. Winners for the Champions in Sheet Metal Working competition were selected by professionals in the industry and presented with Sulzer’s recent acquisition of Interawards at EuroBLECH 2014.
