SECTION NEWS District 13 John Willard, director (815) 954-4838 kustom_bilt@msn.com BLACKHAWK February 2, 7 Activity: The Section donated welder gloves and safety glasses for Boy Scouts in Troop 23 to earn their welding merit badges. Rob Zezniewski and George Bane became merit badge counselors to conduct a welder safety class on Feb. 2. The practical welding tests, held on the 7th at Rock Valley College welding lab, were assisted by Larry Clevenger and Ms. Zezniewski. CHICAGO January 21 Activity: The board members met to plan future activities. Eric Krauss received his Past Chairman’s certificate from Chair Erik Purkey. The meeting was held at Krapils Restaurant in Worth, Ill. District 14 Robert L. Everett Light Career Center. The students who qualified for the State Secondary Welding Contest included Dylan Kennedy, Gabriella Bettegnies, and Mark Kendell from Walker Career Center, Ross Wyatt from Whitewater C. C., and Willie Klein from New Castle ACP. Samuel Chance from Ivy Tech qualified for the postsecondary school contest. The event, open to the public, raised more than $2000 for the Section’s scholarship fund. NEBRASKA January 17 Activity: The Section hosted a bowling tournament for 56 contenders and an auction to benefit its scholarship program, including a new named scholarship to honor Monty Rogers. The seminar included a tour and welding demonstrations in the TSTC Automation and Robotics Laboratory.
